Here's the latest Lake Powell and Lees Ferry fishing news:

5/2/12 Lake Powell:  The water level in Lake Powell is on the slow rise. The best bass fishing in years is happening right now! Water temps have been starting out at 63 in the morning and topping 65-70 in the afternoon here in the lower lake. Fishing for smallmouth, largemouth, crappie and walleye has been fantastic. Stripers have been tough to find in the day and appear to be feeding at night as their spawn approaches. Some schools have been encountered here and there during the day while trolling. Largemouth and smallmouth have been seen in the shallows busy spawning but it will be over soon. All manner of weedless plastics and jigs, Yamamoto Senkos, shallow cranks, spinnerbaits and swimbaits have been good for both largemouth and smallmouth bass in the brush. Largemouth up to 7 lbs and smallmouth over 4 have been recently caught. Quality walleye have been taken on jigs and crankbaits as well. Low light periods have been best for shallow walleye and deeper presentations in the 25 foot range produce 'eyes as the sun climbs. Crappie are in the backs of select coves, tight to the trees and will be available through late May.

5/2/12   Lees Ferry on the Colorado River is fishing very well. The flows from Glen Canyon Dam have been the same for 2 months. Flows are fluctuating from 6500 CFS to a noon time peak of 12,500 CFS. Wading cobble and gravel bars with fly gear is very, very good. The spawn is still on at some locations. The spring midge hatches have been coming off in good numbers and fish are taking midges very well. Dry/ dropper presentations are the norm for spring along with shallow nymphing with a pair of flies. Egg patterns, San Juan Worms or scuds followed by a midge is the best bet.  Swinging buggers or other streamers with sink-tip lines over flats has been very productive as well. Spin fishing from the drifting from the boat has been productive as usual. Marabou jigs, Kastmaster spoons and spinners are all working very well along with bottom bouncing methods.

Lake Powell Striper Fishing
I wanted to let you know how much Tom and I enjoyed fishing with you.  We learned a lot and caught a load of stripers.  You did a great job finding the fish for us and we will be trying the same techniques on the stripers here at Lake Pleasant.  Your boat was very comfortable and rode well.  We enjoyed the delicious lunch that you prepared for us. The fish cleaning facilities at Lake Powell are just great. Thanks again for a really enjoyable day on the lake.  I would certainly recommend your excellent services to anyone!    ~Al Jones
