Here's the latest Lake Powell and Lees Ferry fishing news:
Lake Powell: The water level of Lake Powell peaked in late July. Currently, the lake is dropping just over 1 inch per day. This year, the lake came up an impressive 52 feet. Shorter cooler days and longer cool nights have arrived and fishing is picking up big time. Bass have been the most catchable followed closely by stripers. Crankbaits have been the best speedy presentation lately. Weedless plastics such as tubes, grubs, Yamamoto Senkos and dropshot 4" worms have been good for both largemouth and smallmouth bass in the 15 foot range. Striper boils have been reported in sporadic areas of the southern lake. Any manner of shad imitating lures will take hard fighting stripers when they boil. The good news about the stripers this fall is that they are very healthy - 4-5 pounders are the norm.
Lees Ferry on the Colorado River is fishing very well. Beginning around the 26th of December we will have daily fluctuating flows with a peak around 18,400cfs and a low around 11,800cfs. Currently, the flows are a steady 21,300 CFS. This will limits wading to a handfull of spots so most of the fishing is done on the drift or from the anchored boat. On wadable areas, dry/ dropper with beadhead Zebra midges and bead headed scuds are working well. Nymphing with a pair of flies has been very good lately as well. San Juan Worms or scuds followed by a midge is the best bet. Swinging buggers or other streamers with sink-tip lines over flats has been very productive since early summer. Spin fishing from the drifting from the boat has been productive as usual. Bouncing big egg or worm flies along the bottom is always an excellent way to catch numbers of quality trout. Jigging marabou jigs and Kastmaster spoons as well as using spinners is also working very well. I wanted to let you know how much Tom and I enjoyed fishing with you. We learned a lot and caught a load of stripers. You did a great job finding the fish for us and we will be trying the same techniques on the stripers here at Lake Pleasant. Your boat was very comfortable and rode well. We enjoyed the delicious lunch that you prepared for us. The fish cleaning facilities at Lake Powell are just great. Thanks again for a really enjoyable day on the lake. I would certainly recommend your excellent services to anyone! ~Al Jones

I'm so grateful to live in a free country that has been protected by those who put their lives on the line every day and put their country first.
"We, too, born to freedom, and believing in freedom, are willing to fight to maintain freedom. We, and all others who believe as deeply as we do, would rather die on our feet than live on our knees." – T. Roosevelt
Thank a veteran this Friday and every day
